Trend Micro recommends that you set automatic pattern and scan engine updates. Recommended update intervals for the various components are listed in the following paragraph. Program updates (patches, and so on) occur automatically when available during the next scheduled virus pattern update.

• Pattern—New virus pattern file updates are often available several times a day to keep pace with emerging threats. This setting controls the updating schedule for the following patterns:

• Virus pattern

• Spyware pattern

• Bot pattern

• IntelliTrap pattern

• IntelliTrap exception pattern

• Smart Scan Agent pattern

• Script Analyzer Pattern

• Protocol Information Extraction Pattern

• Scan engine—At least weekly

• URL filtering engine (optional)—At least weekly
