Testing Application Control

IWSVA must be deployed in Forward Proxy Mode, Transparent Bridge Mode, or Transparent Bridge Mode-High Availability to use the Application Control feature.

The following procedure allows you to modify the Application Control Global Policy to block end users from accessing the Google website.

To test Application Control:

  1. Go to Application Control > Policies.

  2. Check the Enable Application Control check box and click Save.

  3. Click the Application Control Global Policy name to modify it.

  4. Find the Google protocol listing in one of two ways:

  5. Type “Google” in the Application Search field and click Search button. The search result you want is the listing of "Google" in the Web category.

  6. Scroll down to the Web category, expand the category and find the entry for Google.

  1. Select the Block action from the drop-down action menu in the column on the right side of the Web category name.

  2. Select one of the objects in scheduled times under “Scheduling."

  3. Click Apply.

  4. Click Save and you return to the Application Control Policies page.

  5. Click Deploy Policies to deploy the updated policy.

  6. Open your browser and attempt to access http://www.google.com.

  7. A security warning screen displays saying the URL is not accessible.
